I recently joined on a Photographic tour to the Pantanal, with Tusk Photo. Our main aim was to photograph Jaguars in the Pantanal region but as an avid birder – the birds were equally important to me as the mammals were.
What was your main reason for heading to the destination?
Birding & Photography
What was the highlight of the trip for you?
Spending some time with a gorgeous Ocelot – a lifelong dream.
Also seeing Hyacinth Macaws, Sunbitterns, Jaguars and Toucans. There were many jaguars in the area, as two females had sub-adult cubs – so it was incredible to see and photograph.
Any difficulties you had to contend with?
Extreme sun exposure, humidity, extreme heat and a variety of biting insects.
Which Outsider Co. product did you use on your mission?.
Craghoppers Nosilife Adventure Long Sleeve Shirt, Craghoppers Kiwi Pro II Trousers, Craghoppers Compresslite Jacket.
Any tips for fellow adventurers heading to the destination?
Prepare for lots of sun and heat. It can get really hot but from what I’ve heard – there are cold snaps often too, when it gets really cold.
Bring lots of High-SPF Sunscreen, Insect repellent and Memory cards (this is such an incredible adventure with so much to see and photograph).
Three important items you can’t leave home without when heading there?
Camera, Sun-Shielding clothing like the Nosilife shirt, Insect repellent.
